Doha: Promoted side Al Markhiya, who was penalised by Qatar Football Association's Disciplinary Committee for fielding an ineligible player against Al Sadd, appealed to its Appeals Committee on Wednesday to reverse the decision in their favour.
Markhiya had stunned Sadd in their opening match 2-1, but the Disciplinary Committee awarded three points to the Emir Cup champions after it was found that Yousef Adam’s side fielded Saleh Al Hajri, who was suspended in the last game last season.
The verdict meant the previous result now stands void, and Sadd picked up full points.
In the letter, the club had explained the circumstances of Al Hajri’s participation and legal position since he had played in the Under-23 league last season.
“We wanted to appeal since we felt we deserved the win and points,” said club’s football head Ali Al Suwaidi.
He exuded confidence the Appeals Committee will look into the matter and reverse the decision in their favour.
“The Disciplinary Committee’s decision against us affected the team’s morale. We’ve a tough game tomorrow against Al Sailiya tomorrow,” he added.
