Doha: Al Sadd tasted their third straight defeats in the QNB Stars League when they were stunned by a gritty Al Khor 1-0 here on Saturday evening.
Despite their outstanding win against Uzbekistan’s Najaf in the AFC Championship last Tuesday, Sadd came a cropper and failed to break Khor’s resolute back-line.
Substitute Salem Khalifa, who came in place of Mowafak Awad in 58th minute, scored a gem of a goal in the 85th with a rasping shot from top of the box that settled into the right corner of the net.
Two minutes before the goal, Sadd were reduced to 10 men when centre-back Pedro Miguel was red carded following an infringement on Iranian international Soroush Hossein.
In fact, Sadd, who remained second on 46 points, suffered a blow in the 17th when Boualem Khoukhi picked up an injury and was replaced by Hassan Ahmed. Surprisingly, Jesualdo Fereira’s side failed to conjure up any worthwhile moves against their opponents, who had been a tough nut to crack.
But Khor, who are 10th in standings, also didn’t quite do well as they struggled to get past the Sadd defence barring that only goal of the match.
