Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah will be the favourite when Manateq Qatar Cross Country Rally begins with a ceremonial start at Souq Waqif on Saturday evening, but just a day before the rally, here he was, trying his hand at shooting, where he has an Olympic bronze, and doing pretty good in it.
Al Attiyah was joint second on the first day in men’s skeet at Qatar Open Shotgun Championships at the Lusail Shooting Range on Friday.
A minor blip in the third round saw Al Attiyah miss the perfect score, allowing 2018 world champion and Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Anthony Terras of France and Jakub Tomecek of the Czech Republic to lead with a tally of 75. Al Attiyah was on 74, along with Milos Slavicek of the Czech Republic and 2017 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ben Llevelin of Great Britain.
Qatar’s Khaled Al Mohannadi is on 73 after missing two targets in the third round.
In women’s skeet, Reem Al Sharshani’s finished with 68 from three rounds as European Games gold medallist Amber Hill led the list with 71.
