DOHA: Qatar Stars League table-toppers Al Sadd returned to the tournament after the break with a confident 6-2 win over Al Khor here on Saturday.
The victory helped Sadd maintained a two-point lead over Al Duhail, who beat Al Sailiya 1-0 in another match.
"I'm happy with the players' performance particularly after their return from Asian Cup," said Sadd coach Jesualdo Fereira. "We have achieved our goal of winning and staying at the top."
Akram Afif, who had an outstanding AFC Asian Cup with the national team last month, netted a hat-trick (seventh, 10th and 64th minutes) while Hamed Ismail (41st), Jung Woo-Young (55th) and Baghdad Bounedjah (57th) scored a goal each as Sadd as they took their points tally to 41.
Wagner Ferreira (15th minute) and Thiago Queiroz (90+2 penalty) reduced the margin for Khor, who remained on nine points.
Akram netted his first goal after he was put through by Hassan Al Haydous and scored his second after he was helped by Gabi Fernandez.
Hamed found the net with a long rising shot as Al Sadd went into the half-time break with a 3-1 lead.
