AHMED Hamad Al Kindi clinched trap gold at the season-ending Emir’s Cup at the Losail Range last week.
In windy conditions which troubled most competitors, Ahmed beat Angelo Scalzone 40-35 in the final.
Mohammed Al Rumaihi won the bronze, beating Nasser Al Humaidi 28-24.
In the final tune-up event before the International Shooting Sport Federation-sanctioned World Cup beginning in Larnaka, Cyprus, on Friday, Ahmed was in a class of his own.
With strong winds blowing, the competitors were missing more targets than usual. But Ahmed retained his poise and composure to put up a strong performance.
In the qualification rounds, he topped the list from among 28 competitors. And as the medal rounds came, he maintained his focus to down his rival who missed five targets.
“Yes, the conditions were quite tough out there, especially with the wind blowing heavily. But it was the same for all. So I can’t afford to complain. It came down to who held his nerve and I’m lucky to have done that,” said Ahmed.
Nawal Hassan Al Khalaf won the women’s title, defeating Bana Ali Abdulla 28-27 in a thrilling final.
Kholoud Hassan Al Khalaf clinched bronze, beating Noora Al Ali 21-17.
