THE ASPIRE Academy last week honoured Adidas Group’s former CEO Herbert Hainer with the Inspirational Leader Award at the Second Leaders Under 40 Awards held in Natural History Museum, London.
The award has been instituted by the academy to inspire the next generation of leaders in sports business and is presented annually to an individual who has led from the front and made an unparalleled impact on the sports industry.
Hainer had done a tremendous job for Adidas. Since joining the group in 1987, the German held various management positions before being appointed the CEO in 2001.
Under his leadership, the Adidas Group sales tripled, net income and the number of employees quadrupled, and the company’s value increased from €3bn to €18bn.
Yet, it is not only the financial metrics that are notable. Under Hainer, the group became one of the most sustainable corporations in Europe and one of the world’s most attractive employers.
