Doha: China’s next generation stars Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Mangyu took their first step to stardom by winning the Seamaster 2017 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour in Linz, Austria.
Fresh from his ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup victory last week in India, Lin defeated 12-10, 11-9, 12-10, 10-12, 11-7 compatriot Yan An in the final.
“I’m very happy to win my first World Tour title, claiming another title after the Asian Cup with such a tight schedule,” Lin said.
Lin had to fight through qualification to make the main draw.
“I was looking forward to making my first appearance at the World Tour final, but was nervous playing against Yan. It’s a dream come true for me,” Lin told www.ITTF.com.
In the women’s singles final, it was a match-up between China’s two promising players Wang Manyu and Gu Yuting.
However, Wang’s experience helped her beat first-time World Tour finalist Gu to 11-9, 12-10, 11-2, 11-9.
“Even though I won 4-0, three of the games were won by a narrow two-point difference. It’s not as easy as the scoreline suggests,” said the 18-year-old.
